Noatak National Preserve Details
The Noatak National Preserve lies to the north and west of Kobuk Valley and protects expanded lands. The preserve also shares some of Kobuk's administrative services and they utilize the same headquarters in Kotzebue. Like Kobuk, Noatak National Preserve has no roads or visitor facilities and is only accessible by plane or boat. Visitors are not required to obtain a permit before visiting, but rangers in Kotzebue will be able to assist with trip planning if requested. The same precautions apply when it comes to backcountry travel, animal safety, weather risks, and cell coverage all apply to Noatak. One substantial difference between the Preserve and Park is that in Noatak National Preserve visitors can hunt, where in the park only local subsistence hunting can occur. Hunters must follow all state and federal regulations, more information can be obtained from the headquarters in Kotzebue or by calling (907) 442-3890.
