Culture Details
Kobuk Valley has had human inhabitants for over 12,000 years. There is evidence that at least nine distinct cultural groups have lived in the valley over the thousands of years. The present inhabitants in the valley are Inupiat people who still subsist on hunting and fishing in the region and park. The present day park lands experienced a gold rush at the turn of the century with small mining camps cropping up and then quickly abandoned around the Kobuk River.
