Boreal Forest Details
Kobuk Valley is the most northern point of Alaska's Boreal Forests. North of the park begins wide open stretches of tundra, but within the park the drainages that head up through small valleys provides the last perfect setting for boreal forests to thrive. Even though most conditions north of the Arctic Circle are desolate, Kobuk Valley lies 35 miles to the north and still hosts this expanse of birch and spruce atypical of its latitude.
