Wildlife Viewing Details
Hike, boat, or fly to view the park's many terrestrial and marine mammals, fish, and birds during your visit. The park's land, sea, and ice environments provide homes for a diverse population of wildlife. Hikers have the chance to see land animals such as brown and black bears, mountain goats, wolverines, marmots, moose, wolves, and porcupine. Boat tours provide the chance to see coastal birds such as the bald eagle, cormorants, ducks, gulls, oystercatchers, and puffins. Boaters also can see the park's marine mammals, whether it's from a tour boat, kayak, or along the rocky shore. Keep an eye out for humpback whales, gray whales, orcas, Dall's porpoises, harbor porpoises, Steller sea lions, harbor seals, and sea otters. Air tours are another way to see large mammals and birds while also viewing the park and its glaciers from above. Below the surface of the water, a whole other world of wildlife exists. Many species of fish, including five species of salmon, attract anglers from around the world to the Kenai Peninsula. If fishing isn't for you, check out the Sea Life Center in downtown Seward for an incredible exhibit on life under the sea.
