Ranger-Led Programs Details
Ranger-Led Programs are offered between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. There are several different types of educational programs. Exit Glacier Walks last about 1.5 hours and start from the Exit Glacier Nature Center at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m. daily. These walks begin on the trail to the Glacier View lookout (this part is wheelchair-accessible) and continue to the edge of the Glacier. Exit Glacier Pavilion Tours last about 20 minutes and occur at 12:30 p.m. daily at the pavilion. Tours focus on animals or stories from the area's rich history. Harding Icefield Ranger-Led Hikes can last over eight hours and start from the Exit Glacier Nature Center at 9 a.m. on Saturdays in July and August. This is a very strenuous hike: it is 4.1 miles each way, with 1,000 feet of elevation gain for every mile. Bring good shoes, food, water, and rain gear. The hike will take you to the edge of the Harding Icefield, the signature feature and crown jewel of the park. Marmot Meadows Ranger-Led Hikes last three to four hours and start from the Exit Glacier Nature Center at 9 a.m. daily between June and August (check for specific start and end dates, which vary by year). This hike is 2.5 miles total, but is considered strenuous due to steep elevation changes. Bring good shoes, food, water, and rain gear. This hike follows the Harding Icefield Trail, providing excellent glacier views, and you'll get a crash course in the local flora, fauna, and glaciology of the region. Other Ranger-Led programs are tailors to kids; check the current schedule for details.
