Pedersen Lagoon Details
Pedersen Lagoon is located at the northwest end of Aialik Bay, across from Coleman Bay and at the mouth of the Pedersen Glacier. This land is owned by the Port Graham Village Corporation, and a special permit is required to enter above the mean high-tide line. However, there is a one-acre public area on the right-hand spit as you enter the lagoon from the bay. The maximum stay is 24 hours. There is a food-storage locker and a food-hanging wire here. This site has been heavily impacted by human activity, so practice Leave No Trace to prevent further damage. To access the beach, enter and exit the lagoon within a few hours of high tide; the current can be very hazardous at low tide. The outer beach can be dangerous to land during big surf. Keep a lookout for wildlife, both in the water and on land, as bears, wolves, coyotes, eagles, sea otters, and harbor seals are all commonly seen here.
