Northeastern Glacier Beach Details
Northeastern Glacier Beach is located east of the large tidewater Northwestern Glacier, at the end of Northwestern Fjord. This long, flat beach is easy to land on, but you may be carrying your gear a long way to reach a campsite. Be cautious that your camp is set up above the high-tide line, and store all food in the locker at the north end of the beach. You can hike up to Northeastern Glacier, but be prepared to cross the glacial outwash stream and watch your footing on the glacier's icy terminus. You can also climb to the top of Striation Island, a short paddle from the beach, but it's more of a scramble than a hike. The view from the top makes it worthwhile, however. Be extremely cautious landing on the island, and pull kayaks onto the steep bedrock since this area is at high risk for surges from calving glaciers.
