Fishing Details

Kenai Fjords National Park has some of Alaska's best fishing. Both saltwater and freshwater fishing are permitted inside and outside of park boundaries. In the park's backcountry, visitors fish for salmon and Dolly Varden, while in the fjords and Resurrection Bay you can cast for salmon, halibut, rockfish, and lingcod. Anglers can fish right from the shore in Seward or in the lakes or streams nearby. Fishing charters are very popular and available year-round. Alaska state fishing licenses are required, and fish harvests are limited to state regulations. The Kenai Peninsula is regulated separately from other districts, in Alaska so anglers should check with park staff for the most up-to-date fishing rules. Standing limits include: King Salmon, one per day; all other salmon, six per day; Lingcod, one per day at least 35 inches long; and Rockfish, four per day (no size limit). For gear and supplies, Seward has a bait and tackle shop in town, with several more on the peninsula.
