FAQ Details
Below are some of the most common questions posed according to the National Park Service and local operators: **Where is the Park?** Kenai Fjords National Park is located just outside the town of Seward in southcentral Alaska, 127 miles south of Anchorage. Seward is accessible year-round via the Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway with stunning views of the Chugach Mountains, Turnagain Arm, Kenai Lake, glaciers and wetlands. **How long does it take to drive from Anchorage to Seward?** Allow yourself approximately 3 hours of driving time between Anchorage and Seward. This will give you extra time for possible construction and traffic delays or brief stops along the way. ** When was the park first created?** Kenai Fjords was established as a national monument by presidential proclamation in 1978. It was designated as a national park in 1980 through the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. **Are any hotels directly in the park?** Only two remote wilderness lodges are operating within the national park boundaries. However, many hotels are located within the Seward city limits. **How close can we get to the glaciers on a boat tour?** For passenger safety and comfort, boats maintain a distance of no less than 1/4 mile from the face of a glacier. Actual distances may vary due to wind, weather, and ice conditions. **Where can we park our car while out on tours?** The town of Seward has two full-day public parking lots near the Seward Small Boat Harbor. One parking lot is located on 4th Avenue, and the other is one block south of 4th Avenue.
