Plan Around Camping
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Camping Details
Camping is available inside and near the park, with the additional option of staying in cabins. Exit Glacier has an established 12-site, tent-only campground. Permits and reservations are not required to stay in the campground, but it is important to note visitors cannot sleep in RVs or vehicles in the parking area. Backcountry camping is allowed in the park anywhere except within 500 feet of a public-use cabin, road, or trail. If you are camping outside the established campground, you should complete a free backcountry registration. All backcountry sites are first-come, first-served. There are additional, privately owned campgrounds in the neighboring town of Seward. Kenai Fjords National Park also has three public-use cabins. Two cabins, Aialik and Holgate, operate during the summer, and the third, Willow Cabin, operates during the winter. The Aialik and Holgate cabins are located along the coast and only accessible by boat, float plane, or water taxi. Willow Cabin is located in the Exit Glacier area and operates from Oct. 15 to April 15 each year. Reservations are required in advance for all public-use cabins: the reservations office can be reached at 877-444-6777. In addition to camping in the national park, nearby Chugach National Forest has several established and backcountry campsites on the Kenai Peninsula, along the Seward Highway and near the town of Cooper Landing. More information is available by calling the Seward Ranger District at 907-224-3374.
