Boat Tour Details

The park service does not operate boat tours in the fjord, but there are many private tours available. During the summer, boat tours depart Seward's boat harbor daily trips lasting from a few hours to all day. Shorter tours tend to stay in the calmer waters of Resurrection Bay, with views of glaciers and wildlife, while longer tours venture further. During spring, fall, and winter, companies offer shorter tours within the bay, and private charter boats are available. Park rangers provide narration and information on cruises operated by Major Marine Tours, and also present programs daily at Kenai Fjords Tours' day lodge on Fox Island. Check with your tour company or at the park visitor centers to see if the tour you are interested in will be narrated by a ranger. Dress warmly with multiple layers so you are prepared for the variety of weather conditions that you may face during your trip. Tours at sea tend to be colder and wetter than on shore, so bring extra layers of clothing and rain gear along, just in case. The boat deck will give you the best views, but most tours have indoor space as well in case weather is inclement. Bring a hat and sunglasses as well.
