Between the coast and inland streams, rivers and lakes, Katmai National Park hosts a surprising variety of plant life. In higher elevations you'll find boreal forests with conifer trees. Throughout the park, you'll also find birch and willow trees. In lower areas including the marshes along the Katmai coast, you will find a wide variety of grasses, sedges, and other low-growing plant-life. Inland, along the rivers and lakes you'll find several species of pondweed, bog aster, cinquefoil, and other freshwater species. Wild flowers in the area are plentiful and include Iris, Spotted Lady Slipper, Arnica, dandelion, several species of Orchid, and many, many more.
