Hiking
Hike the trails from Bartlett Cove or head out on a remote off-trail hike in the park's vast wilderness.
Plan Around Hiking
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Hiking Details
Hikes in Glacier Bay National Park can range from a short walk to a multi-week backcountry trek through nearly undisturbed forests and mountains. Bartlett Cove is the only developed area in the park, and is the jumping off point for several hikes and walks. Plan to spend anywhere from half an hour to a full day exploring this area. There are no maintained trails in the wilderness areas of the park, but the adventurous (and well-prepared) visitor can enjoy a remarkably remote Alaskan backcountry experience. Hikers often stick to beaches, recently de-glaciated areas, and alpine meadows to avoid bushwhacking through dense alder and willow.
