Dry Bay Details

Dry Bay refers to the vast Alsek River delta, large sections of which are dry at low tide. The preserve is bordered by mountains and rivers and is only accessible by boat along the Gulf of Alaska or by plane. Visitors to Dry Bay have an opportunity to see unspoiled nature in a rugged and wild setting. Fishing the Alsek River is a popular activity here; however, boaters must be cautious about running ashore at low tide. There are two airstrips maintained by the NPS, however there are no scheduled flights to the preserve. Access is via a 50-mile air taxi flight from Yakutat, north of the preserve and national park. There are no public communication facilities, and the nearest cell-phone tower is more than 100 miles away. There are no vehicles permitted in the preserve, but there is a NPS cabin available to rent for $25 per day.
