Denali National Park is home to a diverse wildlife population, including top predators like wolves and black and grizzly bears, and large mammals like moose, Dall sheep, and caribou. The park has at least 39 species of mammals along with large populations of resident and migratory birds, including the majestic Golden Eagle. Wildlife can be viewed in many parts of the park, including on bus tours along the Denali Park Road. For your safety as well as that of the animals, never approach closer than 25 yards to wolves, sheep, moose, or other creatures. Stay even further from bears -- at least 300 yards. If you see wildlife on a bus tour, remain quiet and follow your guide's instructions, keeping heads, hands and other body parts inside the bus at all times. Never feed any wild animals in Denali. Bears tend to be the most feared animals in Denali (followed by wolves), but moose also can be aggressive and dangerous -- especially mothers with sows. If a moose charges you, run, dodge, and hide! But never run from a bear.
