The Alaska Range Details
Home to mighty Denali, the highest mountain in North America, the Alaska Range is the stony heart of Denali National Park. Four hundred miles long and relatively narrow, this mountain range includes an impressive number of tall peaks, the Alaska Range is one of the highest mountain ranges in the world, created by tectonic activity that continues to this day, as frequent earthquakes in this part of the Pacific "Ring of Fire" attest. Major peaks of the Alaska Range that fall within Denali National Park include 20,238-foot Mt. McKinley, 17,400-foot Mt. Foraker, 13,218-foot Mt. Silverthrone, 12,240-foot Mt. Huntington, and 11,890-foot Mt. Brooks. The range also is home to many glaciers, including Denali's Muldrow, Eldridge, Ruth, Tokositna, and Kahiltna glaciers.
