Teklanika River Campground Details

Other than (literally) winning the lottery, having a reservation at the Teklanika ("Tek") River Campground is the only way that park visitors can legally drive further into Denali than the Savage River Bridge. Located at Mile 29 of the Denali Park Road, Teklanika is the vehicle-accessible campground most distant from the park visitor center. There's a catch, however: if you want to drive to this campground, you must stay for a minimum of three nights -- a rule that does not apply to tent campers at this 53-site campground -- if they use the park's Camper Bus. None of the campsites here are designated as accessible, but most are level, vehicle-accessible, and surfaced with compact gravel. Teklanika has potable water and vault toilets; several of the latter are wheelchair-accessible. The campground amphitheater is accessible via level paths, surfaced with well-compacted gravel. There are benches in the campground amphitheater, but people with mobility or physical issues should arrive early to ensure a seat. Due to its location near the Tek River, Teklanika is a favorite of wildlife lovers. Large animals, including bears, are most commonly seen along the river. The campground is also popular with visitors who want a convenient base for day-tripping to other parts of the park: to facilitate this, Denali offers a special "Tek Pass" for campers, who get unlimited use of park buses heading deeper into the park for the price of a single ride. The campground is open mid-May to mid-September. Fees are $16 per night. As with most Denali campgrounds, reservations can be made [online](http://www.reservedenali.com). There is a $6 booking fee per reservation. Cancellations must be made by 11 a.m. the day before your stay in order to receive a refund (cancellation fees apply).
