Stargazing Details
Denali is blessed with dark skies free of manmade light pollution, but its long summer days does pose some challenges for star-gazing. However, sunlight begins to fade enough by mid-August for good stargazing after midnight, and even earlier for viewing in the fall, winter, and spring. One added reason to watch the skies in Denali is the rare and wonderful opportunity to witness the aurora borealis, a colorful light show caused by solar particles striking the upper atmosphere of the Earth. As with stargazing, mid-August to April is the best time to view the aurora, although it's difficult to predict very far in advance when the phenomenon might appear.
