Like your privacy? Sanctuary River is the smallest campground in Denali, with just seven sites. Located at Mile 22.6 of Denali Park Road, it lies beyond the end of the publicly drivable part of the road and thus is for tents only and may only be accessed via the park's Camper Bus. This is a primitive campground, with no potable water and vault toilets only (the Sanctuary River is a reliable, clear-running water source, but the river water must be purified before drinking or cooking. No campsites are specifically designated as accessible, though most are level; one restroom is wheelchair-accessible. Sanctuary River Campground is heavily wooded and you may see large mammals like bear, moose and caribou in the area, although these are not common in the campground itself. The campground is open mid-May to mid-September. There are no advance reservations for Sanctuary River campground, so you'll have to check availability at the Wilderness Access Center or Riley Creek Mercantile when you arrive at Denali. Fees are $9 per night.
