Glaciers Details
Glaciers are moving rivers of ice; in Denali, more than a million acres, or one-sixth of the park, are covered by 40 named (and many more unnamed) glaciers flowing through and down the slopes of the Alaska Range. The largest originate from the flanks of Mt. McKinley, including 44-mile-long Kahiltna Glacier, the longest glacier in these mountains. Ruth and Muldrow glaciers are also each more than 30 miles long. As they reach lower elevations, the ice melts and gives birth to rivers. Denali visitors can take flightseeing tours to the glaciers, which may include overflights and/or glacier landings. Visitors can also see a portion of Muldrow Glacier from the Park Road or by hiking along Glacier Creek to Anderson Pass.
