Fishing
Fishing isn't great at Denali, but there are a few places where you can cast a line.
Plan Around Fishing
A good stop is not just something to read about. Once it belongs on the day, move into a saved trip and build the route around it.
Use this detail page to confirm that the stop is worth it, then carry that decision into a trip draft while the park context is still fresh.
Fishing Details
People don't generally come to Denali to fish: the high levels of glacial silt found in many of the park's major rivers make for poor fish habitat. However, you may be able to snare some lake trout in Wonder Lake or try your luck at catching grayling in some of the park's small, clear-running streams. There are several fly-fishing guide services available in the Denali area, but these do not operate within park boundaries. You can fish without a license in the Denali Wilderness, but an Alaska fishing license is required in the other parts of the park designated as Park or Preserve. The catch limit is 10 fish per person, per day, not to exceed 10 lbs and one fish. For lake trout (Mackinaw) the per-day limit is 2 fish (including those hooked and released). Possession of more than one day's limit at any time is prohibited.
