Windermere Jetty Details

Windermere Jetty, Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories is/will be a unique destination on the lake where you can immerse yourself in the boating heritage of Windermere and see the internationally important collection of boats on land and on water. The Hold offers a "behind the scenes" look at objects awaiting conservation or explore the exhibition where you will see steam launches, sailing yachts, motor boats and record breaking speed boats. You can find out about the people that built and owned the boats, discover stories of adventure on the lake or learn more about how boats were built to go faster. You can even visit the Conservation Workshop to see our conservation team in action, find out what is happening in the workshop that day, learn about how they make conservation decisions and see how traditional wooden boat building skills are used to conserve the collection. From here, visit the heart of the museum and see boats on the water in the traditional setting of The Boathouse. See steam launches and motorboats bobbing on the lake and maybe even take a trip out one of the historic boats. Lakeland Arts is one of the most significant arts and heritage organisations in the North of England with a national and international reputation for the quality of its historic buildings, museum and gallery collections and programming. It has a diverse portfolio of attractions in addition to Windermere Jetty: - Abbot Hall Art Gallery in Kendal - The Museum of Lakeland Life & Industry in Kendal - Blackwell, the Arts & Crafts House in Windermere.
