White Raise Cairn Details

This burial mound on Askham Fell stands six feet high and 72 feet across, making it the most visible among a clear line of cairns and standing stones. The cairn dates to the Bronze Age, when stone burial mounds such as this were common. Excavations here during the 19th century uncovered human remains in a stone-lined grave inside the cairn. The cairn is 1.7 miles southwest of Askham, and visiting involves a somewhat steep walk from the village.
