The Cumbria Way Details
The long-distance, north-south Cumbria Way footpath passes through the middle of Lake District National Park as it meanders 84 miles (112 kilometers) between Ulverston and Carlisle. Within the park, the trail visits Coniston, Langdale, Borrowdale, Derwent Water, Skiddaw Forest, and Caldbeck. Unlike the park's many fells walks, the Cumbria Way generally remains at lower elevations, although there are some climbing segments such as when the trail crosses over Stake Pass. Some road-walking is involved. Access points can be found at Old Dungeon Ghyll and Skiddaw House, among others. However, section-hiking the trail can be a challenge since the Cumbria Way only rarely passes through towns or villages.
