Red Screes Details

A fell running between Patterdale and Ambleside, the Red Screes get their name from the reddish debris piled on the peak's eastern slope. Rising up to 2,546 feet (776 meters), this long ridge line is topped by a broad plateau with many cairns, a rock shelter, and the Red Scree Tarn. Summit views include the Kirkstone Inn in the foreground as well as Helvellyn, High Street, and other peaks and fells. From Ambleside, you can climb the Red Screes via "The Struggle" route northeast of town, which leads over Snarker Pass to the summit. Other well-trodden access points are from Kirkstone Pass and Scandale Pass.
