Fishing Details
With all the water in the Lake District National Park, it's an angler's paradise. Rivers and streams are loaded with brown trout, salmon and sea trout; and in larger lakes you'll find pike and other coarse fishing. Much of the fishing within the National Park is controlled by local Angling Associations. These welcome visitors and offer a range of day or weekly permits. Visitors can also enjoy fishing for free on Windermere, Ullswater and Coniston Water, provided you have a valid rod license. The National Park-owned Bassenthwaite Lake in the northern Lake District offers great pike and coarse fishing, as well as salmon and trout in season. Permits can be bought from the Keswick Visitor centre and rod licenses are available through the Environment Agency or at various Information Centres. It is recommended that you speak with visitor centre staff and anglers to familiarize yourself with rules, regulations and techniques specific to local waters. An electric wheelchair accessible boat is available at Coniston Boating Centre. It is specifically adapted with moveable ramp to accommodate up to six wheelchair users. Top speed of six mph. Perfect for wheelchair anglers.
