Dalemain Historic House Details
Meaning "manor in the valley," the Dalemain house has been at this spot in some form since the 14th century. In the Hasell family since 1679, the house still features a jumble of passageways and a 16th-century plaster ceiling. It became a manor house during the Tudor times and the Georgian facade was added in 1744. There have been no major changes since that date save for the addition of central heating and electricity, as well as some redecorating. The grounds include gardens, a deer park and tenant farms. Although the Hasell-McCosh family still lives on the estate, the home was opened to the public in 1977 with an entry charge of £11.50 ($16.70 USD) The house is three miles southwest of Penrith.
