Coast to Coast Trail Details
Devised by legendary Lake District wayfinder Alfred Wainwright, the Coast to Coast Trail runs 192 miles from the Irish Sea to the North Sea, passing through Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park. The route is unofficial and has changed several times since originally being outlined in 1973, but remains quite popular. The western section of the Coast to Coast Trail begins in the Lake District in the town of St. Bees on the Irish Sea, runs through the Ennerdale valley, Borrowdale, Grasmere, and Patterdale. The trail is divided into 12 segments, and offers ample opportunities for fell walking, including climbs of Helm Crag, Helvellyn (or, alternatively, St. Sunday Crag), Angle Tarn, and Kidsty Pike.
