Francis Bay Beach Details

With gentle waves, that signature St. John white sand, ample shade, and excellent swimming and snorkeling, it's no wonder Francis Bay Beach has the reputation for being an excellent family spot. Snorkelers have a variety of environments -- hard and soft coral, sea grass beds, and a marked difference between the east and west sides of the bay -- in which to spot sea creatures. And it's easy to relax on this low-key beach. Bring your snorkeling gear, because you'll want to get in the water. Rays and turtles, and sometimes even huge manta rays, frequent the sea grass beds in the center of the bay. At the eastern side of the bay you'll find a very diverse mix of corals and sea fans and several species of fish -- and even squid -- swimming around. The west side is no less beautiful, though it's more of a coral garden than a fish-filled wonderland; still worth checking out, though.
