FAQs Details
Here are answers to questions commonly asked of park rangers, courtesy of the National Park Service: **How big is the park?** The park includes 7,259 acres of land and 5,650 submerged acres on and around St. John, as well as 122 acres on Hassel Island in Charlotte Amalie harbor at nearby St. Thomas. **I'm only visiting for an hour, what can I do?** Try the self-guided trails at Annaberg Sugar Mill or Cinnamon Bay Sugar Mill: they're both less than a half-mile long and take about an hour to explore. **I'm only visiting for 2-3 hours, what should I do?** Take a hike. The Lind Point Trail connects the visitors center with Salomon and Honeymoon Beaches and takes around two hours to complete. The views are excellent. Or, take a tour of the island with a taxi driver. These tours take 2-3 hours, hit the highlights of the island, and take you to some great photo spots. Finally, you should check the weekly schedule of ranger-led program, many of which take two hours or less. **What can I do in a day?** The ranger-led Reef Bay Trail hike takes around 6 hours and includes transport to the trail and back to the visitors center. Make a reservation, pay your $40 fee, and you'll be ready to go. **Where should I go for the best snorkeling?** Great opportunities abound in the calm, clear waters around St. John, and some of the best places are accessible from shore. Check out the park brochure and snorkeling guide for directions to any of our fantastic snorkeling spots.
