Paddling Details
The mountain lakes and rivers found within Banff National Park aren't only stunning, they're perfect for getting out onto, too, whether easy, flat water, or advanced whitewater, and pretty much everything in between. Any non-motorized boat, including rowboats, canoes, kayaks and sailboats, are permitted to set sail on any of the park's lakes and rivers; boats with motors (gas and electric) are restricted to Lake Minnewanka. Parks Canada wants you to stay safe when getting out onto the park's waters, so be sure to adhere to these safety precautions: choose a trip suitable for your experience level and current weather conditions; know how to treat hypothermia in case of capsize, water temperatures rarely rise above 10 degrees C (50F); and let someone who won't be boating with you know where you'll be and when to expect you back.
