Hillsdale Meadow Details

One of the richest habitats and easiest traveled routes for wildlife is found here in Hillsdale Meadow. Not only do songbirds from as far as South America travel for a summertime feast in the meadow, but they mate here as well. Birds aren't the only ones who flock to Hillsdale Meadow, though. Ten thousand years ago, small groups traveled through the mountains and meadow to gather plant food and hunt the sheep and giant bison who lived in the area after the Ice Age. What's more, the first map makers made their way to Bow Valley and Hillsdale Meadow in 1858-60, sent by the Royal Geographic Society of Britain. West of the meadow on parkway, note the dips and slides of the parkway. The prevailing theory is that these hills and valleys were created with the melting of the last glacier in the valley. The melting glacier loosened the top layer of rock causing various slides.
