Fortune Warden Cabin Details
For some reason, it took 12 years to build the Fortune Warden Cabin (1941-1953), but its intended use was just like the other warden cabins: to house wardens whose job it was to patrol Banff National Park on horseback in the summertime, and on snowshoes or skis in the wintertime. The cabin was just one in a network to minimize travel time between cabins and points within the park. The Fortune Warden Cabin sits alone in a lower sub-alpine meadow along the Spray River, encircled by three mountain ranges - Nestor, Turbulent and Fortune. The cabin serves as an important landmark to hikers, backpackers, skiers and snowshoers who are making their way through this popular backcountry area. The Fortune Warden Cabin is listed on Canada's Historic Places and the Canadian Register, and is a Federal Heritage Building.
