Here's a hike on which you don't hike to the summit, but from it. The self-guided nature trail begins at the highest point on the Icefields Parkway (2,070 meters, or 6,791 feet), passing the Peyto Lake Viewpoint and follows an old fire road to the lookout. Along the trail, keep an eye out for resident pikas, marmots and ptarmigan. The trailhead for this hike is off of Highway 93 North, 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the Lake Louise junction at the Peyto Lake parking lot.
