Banff Springs Hotel Details
The Canadian Pacific Railway built the Banff Springs Hotel, a large, chateau-style hotel, in the late-1800s to encourage tourists to travel their transcontinental railways. The hotel quickly developed an international reputation for excellence, and became a symbol of tourism in the Canadian Rockies. Its footprint at the convergence of the Bow and Spray rivers at the foot of Sulphur Mountain make it ideally situated for a stay within Banff National Park. The hotel was named a national historic site in 1988 because of its leading example as a large-scale resort hotel in a natural setting. The hotel remains in operation today as the Fairmont Banff Springs.
