Turk Mountain Details
Park in the Turk Gap parking area (mile 94.2 on Skyline Drive) and cross Skyline Drive towards the stone marker. Head south on the Appalachian Trail (white blazes) for .2 miles before splitting off at the Turk Mountain trail, marked by blue blazes. You will begin by climbing down 200 feet before beginning your ascent to the summit. The tail gains over 600 feet in .75 miles, so be sure to bring enough water, as the 2.2 mile hike can be deceptive. At the summit of Turk Mountain, you will enjoy views of the mountains to the north and the Shenandoah Valley to the west. The summit is a large rock outcropping, so you'll have no problem finding plenty of different view points from the various rocks to enjoy your lunch.
