Upper Dogwood Trail Details
The Upper Dogwood Trail is one mile one-way when hikers start from the North Mountain Overlook. The trail connects with the Goat Rock Trail, the Lower Dogwood Trail, and the Hot Springs Mountain Trail. Heading northeast on the Dogwood Trail, the first trail hikers will encounter is Goat Rock to their right; Dogwood continues left down the mountain. Before the next intersection, hikers will encounter an old roadbed that crosses the trail. Hikers should ignore it and continue up the mountain, passing between rock piles on both sides of the trail. Take a left at both intersections with the Lower Dogwood Trail and finish the hike at a concrete bench at Hot Springs Mountain Trail. Hikers who take a left at the bench will cross Hot Springs Mountain Drive at the trail shelter after about 100 yards. Gulpha Gorge Trail lies straight ahead and Hot Springs Mountain Trail is to the right. To return to your vehicle, walk up the North Mountain Loop Drive to the overlook.
