Arlington Hotel Details

First opened in 1875, the Arlington Hotel has been a Hot Springs landmark for many years. The original wooden structure was three stories high and featured 120 guest rooms, making it the largest hotel in the state at that time. Rooms were illuminated with gas lights, and porches ran the length of the building to Hot Springs Mountain. The original building was razed in 1892 to make room for a larger structure, a 300-room Spanish Renaissance hotel, which opened in 1893. That building was destroyed by fire in 1923. The present-day Arlington Hotel opened with a New Year's Eve dance on Dec. 31, 1924, and has 560 rooms. The hotel includes an in-house bathhouse with separate accommodations for men and women, and 50 guest rooms have thermal mineral waters piped in. The hotel has attracted many famous guests throughout the years, including U.S. presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, George H.W. Bush and Arkansas native Bill Clinton. Al Capone, whose favorite room was 442, rented an entire floor for his staff and bodyguards.
