A reservoir created out of the Ouachita River, Lake Hamilton was filled south of Hot Springs following the construction of Carpenter Dam in the 1930s. The 7,200-acre reservoir is surrounded by resorts and offers plenty of on-water recreation, such as parasailing, boating, fishing and waterskiing. The 400-passenger Belle of Hot Springs riverboat offers daily cruises, and there's also a botanical garden, Garvan Woodland Gardens, accessible from the water.
