Shriner Peak Trail Details
This steep, exposed trail takes you to the top of Shriner Peak, where an historic old lookout tower still stands and offers views of Mount Rainier and the Cascade Range. Since the trail remains out of the trees for a chunk of the hike and offers no water en route, it's best to leave early on hot summer days. To reach the trailhead, follow State Route 123 north of the Stevens Canyon Entrance for about 3.5 miles and look for a sign about half a mile north of the Panther Creek Bridge. The trail quickly winds out of the forest, cuts through wildflower meadows, and then follows a steep ascent until you reach a ridgetop and, with luck, enjoy a little breeze. Continue along the top of the ridge, enjoying views down into Shriner Lake, and then begin a series of steep switchbacks to the 5,834-foot summit. Trail stats: 8 miles; 3,434 feet of vertical gain; 5 hours.
