Striped Butte Details

Striped Butte is located in the remote Butte Valley in the southwest corner of the park; it's a 4,744-foot mountain rising about 700 feet from the valley floor that's rarely seen by Death Valley National Park visitors. Limestone laid down over the eons gives the butte its striped appearance, and the formation is rich in fossils of ancient sea life. Butte Valley also is home to Anvil Spring and Anvil Canyon; access is via Warm Spring Canyon Road, an unpaved road that connects to the southern end of Westside Road.
