Warm Springs Camp Details

Most mining camps in Death Valley were a jumble, thrown together by men eager to make their fortune and little else. Warm Springs Camp, by contrast, was a tidy and organized affair built by a woman, Louise Grantham. Despite the civilized veneer, however, Grantham was a tough cookie: a gun-toting, hard-drinking lady who ended up running the largest talc-mining operation in the U.S. for decades. The U.S. Park Service only acquired the camp in the 1990s after mining finally ended, so today's visitors will find buildings and equipment relatively intact at the camp. There's even a swimming pool. The camp is located in Warm Springs Canyon, in the southwest corner of Death Valley National Park, which can be reached via Warm Spring Road, a spur off West Side Road.
