Village of the Ahwahneechee Details
This village is comprised of bark houses, a ceremonial roundhouse, a sweat house, a cabin, acorn granaries, and a chief's house, all representative of structures that would have been found in a Sierra Nevada Miwok village in the late 19th century. You can visit anytime, even when the museum is closed. A self-guided walking tour explains how the early inhabitants of the Yosemite Valley lived prior to European contact in the mid-19th century. The roundhouse here is still sometimes used for ceremonies.
