Black Rock Campground Details

Open all year, Black Rock Campground is located on the park's northern perimeter, in one of its thickest stands of Joshua trees. The 99 campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis from June 1 to Sept. 29, but can be reserved in advance during the winter season. Campground site 61 is wheelchair accessible; 51 are tent-only and the rest are a mix of pull-through and back-in sites. There are flush toilets, potable water and a dump station, but no electrical hookups. RVs up to 35' can be accommodated. Black Rock is great for birding enthusiasts, with many of the park's species living in or around the campground. Frequent sightings include cactus wrens, Gambel's quail, great horned owls, scrub-jays, and roadrunners. There's a small nature center in the middle of the campground as well, with maps, books, nature guides and children's activities available for purchase. Staff can help you plan a hike on one of the area trails, including the California Riding and Hiking Trail, which has its trailhead here. Amenities such as showers, laundry and groceries are located in Yucca Valley, five miles away. Cost: $20/night Services include: Flush toilets and potable water; each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table. There's also a separate campground, one of two in the park, that can accommodate horses. There is an RV-accessible potable water and dump station.  Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m, and generator use is permitted only from 7:00-9:00 a.m., 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., and 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
