Echo Lake Details
In addition to swimming and boating, the lake features a boat launch, a lifeguard-patrolled beach, and a stop for the free Island Explorer bus. Rising above the lake is 836-foot Beech Mountain; the Beech Cliffs and Canada Cliffs trails lead to a series of dramatic cliffs overhanging the lake, while the Beech Mountain Trail goes to the summit. Brook trout inhabit this glacier-carved lake which is up to 66 feet deep in places. That keeps water temperatures on the cool side, but still not as cold as Maine's frigid ocean waters. Swimmers who venture out from the shore will notice a sudden drop off at an underwater cliff.
