Nenana River Details
Visitors to Denali cross the Nenana River just before they enter the park: in fact, the river forms the eastern boundary of Denali National Park and Preserve. Originating in the Alaska Range at the Nenana Glacier, the river runs for 140 miles before merging with the Yukon River. Both the Alaska River and the George Parks Highway/Highway 3 run along the river for much of its length. Outside of Denali, the river is popular for whitewater rafting and boating -- the Nenana Canyon has class IV and V rapids.
