Upheaval Dome Details

Scientists struggle to explain the unusual geology of Upheaval Dome, a three-mile-wide circular bulge in the earth's crust. Was this caused by layers of underground salt bubbling and pushing the dome up and then collapsing back into the earth to make a crater or something else entirely? Were these rocks really buried by over a mile of salt, as many geologists speculate? Follow the 0.8-mile trail to the first overlook and see for yourself. Located in the northwest section of the Island in the Sky, this mineral mystery is worth a look.
