Foss and Knowlton Pond Trail Details

A shortcut between Daicey Pond Campground and the West Branch of the Penobscot River, it is considerably shorter than the Appalachian Trail between these two points. From the Appalachian Trail, turn right at the junction onto the Foss & Knowlton Trail. This is an old road for the first 2.2 miles and there are several misleading forks in the road/trail, follow the trail carefully. At 2.2 miles the road will open into an old yard area. Continue to the right and gradually descend towards the pond. Follow the woods path and at 3.7 miles, turn sharply left onto hiking trails and skirt the east shore of the pond through dense spruce and fir growth. The trail terminates at a junction with the Daicey Pond Loop Trail. Note that there are several short (.1 mile or less) trails that will lead hikers to various points on Foss and Knowlton Pond, Lost Pond, or Daicey Pond.
