West Entrance Station Details

If you, like many park visitors, are coming from Kalispell, Whitefish or Columbia Falls, Montana, you'll enter Glacier through the West Entrance Station. This popular portal receives heavy use during the summer, so don't be surprised if traffic is backed up and there is a wait. The wait is worth it. The West Entrance provides easy access to the Lake McDonald area, the Apgar Visitor Center, and Going-to-the-Sun Road. The Civilian Conservation Corps built the rustic-looking toll both in 1942. While it's been expanded to add extra booths and lanes of traffic, the aesthetic remains true to the time and matches the station on the St. Mary's side of the park. The West Entrance Station is on the National Register of Historic Places.
