El Tovar Hotel Details

Opened in 1905, El Tovar Hotel stands directly on the rim of the Grand Canyon and is widely regarded as the premier lodge on the South Rim. Designed by architect Charles Whittlesey for the Santa Fe Railway, the hotel blends elements of a Swiss chalet and Norwegian villa and was named a National Historic Landmark in 1987. Built of local limestone and Oregon pine, it has hosted presidents, scientists, authors, and countless visitors drawn to its historic elegance and unrivaled canyon views. El Tovar features 78 distinctive rooms and suites, no two exactly alike due to the hotel historic design. Room types include standard and deluxe accommodations with queen or king beds, as well as uniquely themed suites with separate sitting areas. Rooms are accessed by stairs only, as there are no elevators. All accommodations include satellite television, air conditioning, a full bath, coffeemaker, safe, and hair dryer. In room dining is available for breakfast and dinner, and bell service is provided. Accessible rooms are available in limited numbers. In anticipation of a proposed guest room refresh, portions of the hotel will be offline from June 25 through September 11, 2026, with construction occurring during daytime hours. The dining room and retail outlets will remain open. Operating dates are subject to change.
